The non-political group in the Church of Sweden
A free vote in a free church
- we have a vision for the Church of Sweden and are prepared to accept responsibility for it
- Participation at diocese and synod levels must be based on engagement at parish level
- our candidates are conversant with and rooted in the Church of Sweden
- our aim is to break down the existing political divisions and renew democracy in the Church of Sweden
- the election system in the Church of Sweden is expensive and complicated. We aim to simplify the election process and reintroduce indirect election. This gives a cost reduction of approximately 30 million kronor and a more stable democracy
Daily life in the Church of Sweden
POSK aims to see that the Church of Sweden
- makes it clear that everyone is welcome to join in and contribute
- is a place for Christian education, training and development for young and old
- strengthens and develops song and music in our churches
- increases the number of church services, services that give hope and encouragement in our lives
- makes the most of our children’s and young people’s commitment and enthusiasm
- has the courage to come close to and help all who are trouble and distress
POSK’s aim is, therefore, that:
- parishes in the Church of Sweden shall work together even more, so that we can offer a vigorous and varied programme of activities
- members of the Church of Sweden shall be able to serve in the Parish Council of their choice, without any requirement for residence in the parish
- Improve local responsibility
POSK’s aim is:
- that the local church shall be a centre for regular worship and engagement
- that smaller parishes can share administration and financial services so that they can continue to exist and offer a wider range of worship and activities
Respect and consideration
It is self-evident for POSK that everyone, regardless of gender race, or sexual orientation, shall be treated with respect and made welcome in the Church of Sweden and in POSK. Responsibility is an important factor in all relationships within couples. POSK wants the Church of Sweden to work more with questions of cohabitation and sexuality, including bible interpretation and children’s rights. POSK is of the opinion that the Church of Sweden, with its Lutheran view of marriage, can include differing perceptions in the marriage question without causing schism.
Men and women in the Church of Sweden
The Church of Sweden needs more women as managers and chairpersons. It needs more men in those callings which now have mostly women. The Church of Sweden has too few women bishops and rectors, and POSK hopes to see that more church committees at all levels have a woman in the chair.
The worldwide church
Every parish is a part of the worldwide church. The consequence of this is that each parish has a responsibility for people in distress or trouble, both at home and in the world, and must actively discuss and work together with other Christian groups and churches.
POSK’s aim is to:
- seek inspiration from and dialog with other churches in the rest of the world
- strengthen the Church of Sweden’s international solidarity and support local group volunteers
